Alpha Flight #106 – Review – Northstar’s Coming Out as One of Marvel’s First Gay Superheroes

It is not much of a secret that Jean-Paul Beaubier, aka Northstar, is a gay Mutant in the Marvel Universe. His story of officially coming out in 1992’s Alpha Flight #106 was not a subtle story and quite emotional to read. The issue involves a tear jerker plot with the Canadian superhero finding an baby in a trash can that is HIV positive and only has a short while to live. This coincides with another retired superhero who’s own experience with AIDS causes him to attack out of anger and depression. Check out my thoughts on this issue in the attached video, but be warned, major spoilers ahead.
