Moonlight – Trailer – Indie Distributor A24 Production – WOW This Looks Great!

Moonlight

Wow, have you seen the trailer for the movie Moonlight yet? This looks incredibly powerful and well produced. I got goosebumps just watching the trailer below. Written by Barry Jenkins and produced by indie distributor A24, this is set in the 1980’s. As the trailer shows, is centered around a gay man (Chiron) at several stages in his life. We get so few well written gay movies and even fewer that are based on black characters. I feel like this could be a great movie. I may have to travel out of my area to see it if it is not released in all theaters, but I luckily have a lot in my area that do show a variety of movies.

I only know the basic premise of the movie and what is shown in the trailer. I do know it is based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, by playwright Tarell McCraney. However plays and movies often are not identical and have varying details altered. So it may not be exactly like the play. IndieWire describes as:

The film tells the life story of a young man named Chiron (Trevante Rhodes) via three defining chapters of his life. Set in the 1980’s Miami during the height of Reagan’s War on Drugs, “Moonlight” follows Chiron as he comes of age, falls in love and discovers his own sexuality, all while learning to embrace his own vision of masculinity as characters float in and out of his life. The ensemble cast includes Naomie Harris (“Spectre”), André Holland (“The Knick”), Mahershala Ali (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), Edson Jean (“War Dogs”), and soul/R&B singer Janelle Monaé in her debut film performance.
Moonlight is set to premiere in theaters on October 21, 2016.
