My Friend Dahmer – Graphic Novel and an Indie Movie Was Made – I Had No Idea!

I had no idea that a graphic novel and now an independent movie was made on serial killer – Jeffrey Dahmer’s teenage years. The graphic novel was written by John Backderf also known as Derf and Derf Backderf. The story goes along with Derf and his friendship with Dahmer from the ages of 12, all the way up to the day that Dahmer killed his first victim a couple weeks after high school graduation.

I was worried about reading this book because I know of the horrific things that Dahmer did to his victims. But luckily Derf has gone on to say ‘there is no violence or gore in his book; it just hints at the violence, which in a way makes it much more eerie and unsettling, forcing the reader to read between the panels.’ Also Derf makes it clear that Dahmer is not a sympathetic character. He is a monster. But apparently every monster has a beginning.

So maybe I will check this book out before the movie is released. Or at least when the movie is more widespread released. I will be cautious though, as there are certain genres I generally steer clear from seeing. Disney star Ross Lynch plays Dahmer and Alex Lynch plays Derf, There is no official release date for the movie, but it has been shown at the Canadian premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival on July 16. What do you guys think? Is this something any of you would be interested in reading/watching?
