It’s comic book day! Lots of goodies came out this week.
Nightwing #35 – Dick goes up against limo drivers. No joke. We also get to see his ass very nicely.
The Mighty Thor #702 – Jane Foster’s reign of being Thor is near ending. She had a great run and her story has been epic.
Marvel Two in One – The Thing and The Human Torch – Together again for new adventures. Thanks to Doom.
Batman #37 – A double date between Batman and Catwoman and Superman and Lois. Very fun issue.
Superman #37 & SuperSons #11 -SuperSons of Tomorrow Part 1 and 2. The Tim Drake of the future is here and he’s trying to kill Jonathan Kent Superboy…for reasons unknown. This is a great story, because we have more mentioning and future appearances of adult Conner Kent.

Have you seen the cast photo of Fantastic Beasts 2? I am not the biggest Johnny Depp fan and was secretly hoping that Colin Farrell would some how return back as Grindelwald (because magic). Not that Depp is not a great actor, I’m just not the biggest of fans and think that Farrell did such a great job. I am loving that we get to see Jude Law as a younger Dumbledore. Also, Ezra Miller will be in the movie in some capacity, which many people speculated his survival at the end of the previous movie with Newt (Eddie Redmayne) saving his last essence. So that’s great too.

What do you think of the cast? Are you excited to see this?

FF

The Fantastic Four along with their major players including Doctor Doom, the Silver Surfer and the cosmic world eating devourer himself, Galactus could be coming back to Marvel Studios during Phase 4 of their movie/tv universe. This was rumored back in October 2015 on ComicBookMovie.com. But this is getting more credence with the other cosmic quartet’s characters wanting to be used for other Marvel movies. Specifically, James Gunn (writer for Guardians of the Galaxy) wanting to use Fantastic Four villains in his next Guardians movie. With the flop of the 2015 Fantastic Four, there could be a deal in agreement with Fox similar to what happened with Sony’s deal with Spider-Man. Still, nothing has been confirmed.

Phases

If you are not aware, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has worked in Phases for their movies/tv shows. The first phase built up to the first Avengers movie. The second phase built up to Avengers: Age of Ultron, but for some reason also included Ant-Man. We are about enter into the third phase with Captain America: Civil War. A lot has been established and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been overwhelmingly well received. Some issues here and there with some of the choices for directions taken for some storylines (Iron Man 3). But a couple things are clear. Noticeably missing from the Marvel Universe are mutants and Marvel’s first family of superheroes, the Fantastic Four.

FF2

How cool would it be for Latveria, the country that Doctor Doom governs with an iron fist, to be mentioned in an upcoming movie. Even better to have him done right, for once. Or to have a looming threat with Galactus to be mentioned in the next Guadians movie? So many possibilities open up. What do you think?

Human Torch

If a movie studio prevents advanced reviews on upcoming films, usually that means that the studio knows that the movie is going to fail. In this case, 20th Century Fox has refused to allow reviews of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie until August 7, 2015. Which is the release date of the movie. Meaning, that no one can give their opinions of the movie until the movie has actually been released.

Fantastic Four

Some films do this as a way to keep the element of surprise or to allow fairness in other reviewers so that everyone can post up their own coverage more or less at the same time. But waiting to the last minute to allow anyone to review the movie is generally a sure sign that the movie is going to fail. This generally means that the viewer cannot warn other viewers to not see a horrible movie until it is too late because the other consumers have already purchased tickets. It’s the only way for some studios to make at least some profit on the movie.

I hope that I am wrong and I will give the movie a completely fair chance to impress me. I have low expectations, so it should not be hard to surpass my original thoughts being that I never cared for the previous two installments. This could be awesome or it could be so horribly bad.

But hey, if it bombs, maybe Disney/Marvel could buy back the rights and make the Fantastic Four part of the Marvel Universe?

Michael B Jordon
There’s always a lot of controversy over castings in movies, and never will there be a time when everyone is satisfied with an actor who is placed in any iconic role. I will admit, I do question a lot of castings that are unusual, like when Nicholas Cage was cast as Superman in the ill fated Superman Lives movie that never saw production…that’s a different post, I’ll go into that another time. But one of the big deals that a lot many comic geek fans have been questioning is Micheal B Jordan’s (don’t ever forget to put the ‘B’ in his name, or you’ll get a completely different person pop up) casting as Johnny Storm.
Johnny Storm
I never had problem with the casting of Johnny Storm. I have many other issues that stem from so many other elements. Like why is the rock creature from the Never Ending Story playing the Thing?
thing
Jamie-Bell-Actor
And why is the human version of the Thing (Ben Grimm) played by Jamie Bell, who admittedly is very hot, but looks tiny in comparison to how Ben actually looks and isn’t a brawler from Brooklyn? And why is the Thing fucking naked?! Blue shorts, that’s all they need. Seriously, his junk is destroyed when he becomes the Thing?
Stan-Lee

But recently, Stan Lee actually gave his opinion on this matter. He spoke with Entertainment Weekly:
“I thought it was a great idea!” Lee said, regarding Jordan’s role. “They [the critical fans] are outraged not because of any personal prejudice… They’re outraged because they hate to see any change made on a series and characters they had gotten familiar with. In ‘Spider-Man,’ when they got a new actor, that bothered them, even though it was a white actor. I don’t think it had to do with racial prejudice as much as they don’t like things changed…I think they’re gonna get to love this character,” he continued, “So I’m not the least bit worried about it. I always tried to pepper these groups with as much racial diversity as possible because that’s the way the world is.”

So what do you think? Is this a big deal? I hope the movie is well done, but I have a lot of fears and think that it may not do too well. But that is more because of the story and the direction that it looks like it is heading. I hope I am wrong though. Although I think that 20th Century Fox wussed out and should have cast Susan Storm as a black woman as well. In fact they should have. Fox is saying that Susan is ‘adopted,’ which is total B.S. They did not want the lead female to be a black woman, which is so sad that they would do that. To me, that is what more people should be upset about.
