The New Rita Repulsa in the UpComing Power Rangers Movie

Elizabeth Banks as Rita

Over at People Magazine, we have our first glimpse of the supervillain Rita Repulsa from the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie. She is being played by Elizabeth Banks. What do you think? It is definitely a HUGE departure from the iconic version that was played by several actresses in the original Sentai and American versions of the show (see pic below). The green definitely is homage to the introduction of the inevitable evil Green Ranger to the series. I am not against this change in her looks, I just really hope that she is not simply a sexy villainous to make kids (and adults) lust after her. That would be a huge disappointment. At least she doesn’t have the spiked Madonna boobs anymore. What do you think?

  1. As that kid that who hated the power rangers and thought every other 9 year old in the 4th grade was insane for watching the show, I can’t help but feel a little schadenfreude over this. Just a little.

  2. Meh. I like my Rita thick-figured and shriek-y, like the old days. The newest incarnation for the movie has a definite Poison Ivy vibe to her, which I guess is all right.

At least they’re drawing inspiration from a good source there. As for the rest, my decision will remain on hold until I see the character in action. Ultimately, whether or not the actress can hold the part, and whether or not the part stays true to the original, remains the ultimate point for me.

  3. i hope so too thats she is not just for sexual appeal and in fact that she will bring the same amount of evilness if not more as the originals.
