The Ray – First Footage Of The CW Seed’s Animated Gay Superhero Show Has Been Shown

The first footage of CW’s gay superhero, the Ray has been released from San Diego Comic Con. The CW’s streaming service has released another animated series which starred Vixen in the past. This current series is titled Freedom Fighters: The Ray. In this we have our protagonist taking on evil versions of Arrow, Supergirl and the Flash in a parallel world where the Nazis won World War II.

Also appearing in this small clip is Black Condor, Phantom Lady, and Red Tornado of the Freedom Fighters. It should be known that the Ray is a gay superhero in the current DC Comic book continuity. The description of the character: Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

  1. I don’t see anything yet about the character being gay, tho, which is a letdown. Not sure why they felt he had to exist in a parallel universe. Like, are gay people being deported now?

Are bisexuals and transgendered people next?

  2. I’m really surprised that they’re using the Earth-X version of the character. I guess they needed to find a way to use Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, and Melissa Benoist in this. The Ray in Multiversity was gay so I hope they don’t change that. I liked the Vixen series so I’ll give this a shot. This clip leaves me with mixed feelings. I really hope this turns out to be good.
