Vintage Gay Porn – They Deserve Major Respect for Doing What they Did

Vintage Porn 13
Can you imagine NOT having the ability to see endless porn sites today? Gay porn has been around just as long as straight porn, but gay porn never receives the spotlight as much as it’s hetero counterpart. That’s a mistake, gay porn will receive lots of spotlight when anything negative is brought up and when it is criticized for what ever new reason that people feel that it should be criticized for. But with that being said, porn will never go away, and even though everyone watches porn, for some reason, no one likes to talk about it. Even today, it is still considered taboo by many people. Usually they get these feelings of porn being taboo after they have just jerked off to watching porn.

Bring back the porn
I think Dr. Cox from the show Scrubs said it best: “I’m fairly sure if they took porn off the internet, there’d only be one website left, and it’d be called “Bring back the porn!”

I have so much mad respect for all the people of the previous century for all of the gay pornographic material that was filmed or photographed. There were so many laws in different areas that affected all porn. Before the 1960’s, gay porn was illegal to be filmed distributed. It was not until 1962 when the Supreme Court ruled during the MANual Enterprises v. Day case that nude completely men could be shown in magazines and distributed. I could not imagine the lengths that people had to go through to film before this time.
Boys in the sand
The first film that many consider as the first full pornographic movie is credited to Boys in the Sand, that stars Casey Donovan. It was the also the first film to include the cast and crew in the credits. Before the invention of the VCR (or Beta for some), to own movies with gay porn must have been tough. Having to watch porn in theaters or to go through the lengths of obtaining film reels is not as easy as purchasing movies today. Plus not having anywhere near the selection that we enjoy in the 21st century is something that would take time adjusting to.

Then VHS tapes came out and was much more widespread, porn could be seen anywhere. Of course then DVD/Blu-Ray and then the internet completely changed the venues of distribution for gay porn. Anyone with the freedom to search online could watch porn of every fetish and desire ever thought up. With that notion, porn is pretty damn awesome.

I am not historian and I do not know anywhere near enough about the past in gay history that I should. Like I said, gay porn has been around since the dawn of man and I learn something new every day that I never anything about. I definitely have mad respect for past and present porn makers. They never get anywhere near as much credit as they deserve. They get millions of people off every day and they are rarely ever thanked for their work. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you porn makers! You guys are fucking awesome! Keep doing what you are doing. Here are some vintage pics that I have collected in the little bit of research that I did. There are some really cool documentaries out there that give a great history on gay porn. Some go back to Victorian era and further. Seeing those are just awe-inspiring.

  1. Even though there was the 62 case, local police would still raid the producers offices and destroy equipment and confiscate stock. LAPA and LA County Sheriffs did so well into the 70’s, and it wasn’t till Larry Flint took his case all the way to the Supremes that it seemed to stop.

So if you are really thankful for the cornucopia we have today, take a few minutes and send Larry a thank you card, he gave his legs so we don’t have to to the seedy side of town and buy really expensive “naturalist” magazines.

Beta and VHS tapes both go in a VCR, there are also 3/4″ and 1″ video cassettes. “VCR” just describes the recorder/playback machine not the cassette size it uses.

Any one have any idea what the 1st gay porn video tape was? That would be a great question for finial Gay Jeopardy down at the pub.
