Wonder Woman #1 DC Universe Rebirth Comic Book Review- Wonder Woman’s 75th Anniversary

Wonder Woman 1

Wonder Woman first appeared in All Star Comics #8 back in December 1941. She was created by Dr. William Moulton Marston, who is also the man credited with creating the polygraph test. Since then Wonder Woman has gone on to become the most famous of all female comic book characters by far. Her main purpose was to stand against male tyranny and dominance while bringing peace to man’s world. She is an Amazon and has varying origins depending on the the era of comic books. The most popular origin is she was created from clay by Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons on Themyscira, and granted gifts from the Gods. She has had several TV movies and a TV series as well. It is fitting that she finally appears in a cinematic movie, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice on her 75th Anniversary.

Unfortunately Wonder Woman has never had her own ongoing series like Detective Comics or Action Comics as Batman and Superman have had in the past. It would have been great had Sensational Comics continued on through the past decades. Regardless though, Her series has restarted with Wonder Woman returning back to a much more iconic look. She is exploring her past as her origin that she is aware of in the current DC Universe has been revealed to be a possible lie. This is incredible news to many fans as her current origin that she is a daughter of Zeus. She is also much more arrogant and quick to attack rather than find a peaceful means to counter a conflict in the New 52 Universe. This is a polar opposite of her previous incarnation. The beginning of this new series is fixing this issue and bringing the character back to her roots. It is a great read and some supporting characters and villains that have not appeared in the New 52 Universe are also being brought back, in a much different way. Check out the video below for my thoughts on the first issue.

  1. Great review. I loved that she gave them three warnings before she fought. That was something that has been missing from Wonder Woman the last few years. By the way, your Robin shirt is awesome. Plus you wore your glasses, which is always a plus.
