Latino History Month Spotlight: Bunker!

A lot of people haven’t heard of my man Bunker and that needs to change! Bunker, who’s also known as Miguel Jose Barragan, is a member of the Titans team whose powers are able to create anything out of energy. Basically a Green Lantern without the ring. He is also a gay icon in the comic world as he himself is gay and has a boyfriend. A little history of him is that he was born and raised in a small village in Mexico called El Chilar of which was a loving community. So much so that they accepted him coming out. As a teen he left his town to become a superhero and in search for his idol Red Robin. He has been a valuable member of the team during the New 52 (in my opinion).

When the writers were coming up with the idea Brett Booth mentioned “We wanted to show an interesting character whose homosexuality is part of him, not something that’s hidden. Sure there are gay people who you wouldn’t know are gay right off the bat, but there are others who are a more flamboyant, and we thought it would be nice to actually see them portrayed in comics. Did we go over the top, I don’t think so.” Quite frankly they got that on the nail. There was a rumor that he may be showing up in the web series Titans and I honestly hope that is the case. Since the comics he hasn’t made much of any appearances other than a few cameos like in the animated show DC Superhero Girls.

For now enjoy some great pics of one of my most favorite latino characters.

Some of which have been made by the amazing artist Luciano Vecchio
