Midnighter finally makes it into hell and reaches his boyfriend Apollo. But he has to defeat hell itself, which is the embodiment of Neron. This is an epic fight between Midnighter and Neron that has a very bittersweet ending.

SADNESS!
I wish this could have gone on for much longer, even as an ongoing series. Good review of the finale, though, Paulie. 🙂
I really wish this was either a 12-issue series or an ongoing (these days it’s pretty much the same thing). I figured Neron was messing with Midnighter and that Apollo wasn’t really a captive. That’s what Neron does, mind-fuck people. The fight was absolutely brutal and I thought the angel binding was brilliant. It was so touching seeing Midnighter reaching for Apollo right before he passed out. Looks like Apollo will finally get the chance to save Midnighter next issue. I really, really, really wish this series wouldn’t end. I hope we get to see them again in another title soon.
