Who is going to save Westeros in Game of Thrones?

I may be a bit obsessed with the show Game of Thrones. I love it but I hate it at the same time. I’ll admit that I didn’t read the books, but I may change that this coming summer as the show is on hiatus. Granted, the show has departed greatly from the books, but still I love to read the original writer, George R.R. Martin’s original take on the story. Generally, the original work of any book series is usually better than the tv or films series. It’s just how it’s done since other media has many more people putting in their creative decision making as opposed to just one author.

Regardless of that, if you’ve seen the series up until now, you know that everyone is warring and playing ‘The Game of Thrones’ as to who will take the Iron Throne itself. The current king, Tommen, is much nicer than the previous evil, psycho King Joffrey, but is obviously way to naive and timid to be the king of Westeros.

However, the real story, which has been a subplot for literally 5 seasons, are the White Walkers that live North of the Wall. Jon Snow, Ned Stark’s supposed bastard, has been taking up the Night’s Watch at the wall to help guard Westeros from what lies beyond the Wall.

As we just recently saw in Season 5, Episode 9- Hard Home, the White Walkers are finally starting to move. Of course they’ve been technically moving for several seasons, but we have barely any mention or sight of them at all during each season. This episode however, we finally see them in all their glory, and they are fucking awesome! Well they’re deadly, badasses that are probably pretty evil, but they’re awesome nonetheless.

The problem is, killing them. Sure, they look like ‘Walkers’ from Walking Dead, or T-Virus zombies from Resident Evil, but in the Game of Thrones universe, they’re much more. In fact, they seem to be sentient beings that are capable of thinking logically. What’s worse is that there are limited items in Westeros that can kill them. I dagger made of dragonglass has proven to be able to kill them.

Also, in this past episode, we found that Valyrian steel can also kill White Walkers. Jon Snow was lucky enough to have a Valyrian blade called Longclaw, given to him and was able to take down a White Walker. In the books, Valyrian steel is described as dragonsteel and the secrets to making them are long lost. What the world has now, is all they will ever have of Valyrian steel. So what does that mean? Well unless the armies of Westeros can arm themselves with lots of dragon glass or find a huge supply of Valryian steel blades, then they’re all fucked.

Unless…the Queen returns. Yes, Daenerys Targaryen, the banished princess and now Queen, has been hinting to want to return back to her homeland of Westeros for 5 years. She is the MOTHER OF DRAGONS. I think that the term DRAGON-blade. DRAGON glass is the key word. Fire in itself doesn’t bother White Walkers, but DRAGON Fire may be the key. I really believe that Daenerys’ Dragons will turn the tide and completely obliterate White Walkers and save Westeros. Not only that, this could be the key to her winning the favor of the people of Westeros after her father, the Mad King, caused everyone to hate her bloodline. Of course this is too obvious, but I really hope that we as the viewers actually get a good payoff as to the end of this series.

So, unless the Riders of Berk from ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ suddenly appear on the show, then Daenerys is the worlds only since all other Dragons are extinct.

I do not know if there are 2 more seasons after this season or if there are 3 more seasons planned. But we are getting closer to a conclusion each week. Am I the only one that wants to see an actual happy ending to this show with Daenery’s taking the Iron Throne, freeing the world from slavery, tyranny much less absolute, having all the bad guys get their comeuppance but also have the best motherfucking badass Zombie vs Dragon fight EVER?

  1. Brain fart here. The point I was making is the I think Bran might/could control the dragons to fight the White Walkers. Possibly giving him and the Stark family an edge on killing the walkers and saving everyone.

    1. Yeah I hope they give Bran some screen time next season. I don’t know if they’ll lead with him being able to control the dragons, but maybe he can help. I think in the books they allude that all the Starks can control animals and that Dire Wolves can also kill White Walkers. It’d be cool to see all the Starks with Daenerys.

  2. I like your thoughts on the show. Daenerys may be the mother of the dragons but she cannot control them. Bran Stark (I think that id the one) can control animals. He hasn’t been seen in a while but he could control animals and humans (Hoder). I’m hoping they do more with him in the future.
