Some truly WTH casting choices here, which confuse the heck out of me. Jeremy Irons would make a MARVELOUS Lex, but I don’t see him as Alfred. Blame the Disney fan in me, I’ll never really get past Scar.
I’ve never even heard of Eisenberg. Then again I don’t like what Man of Steel did to Superman’s character so I’m going into this movie with a MOUNTAIN of salt.
Eisenberg doesn’t exude the confidence and gravitas needed to play Lex. In his roles, he’s the epitome of the modern man-child — hyperverbal, insecure and vacillating. And — a lesser point — his weak, reedy voice is not villainous. I can’t imagine anyone feeling threatened by him, which is a key aspect of Lex and, unfortunately, an aspect that’s also been missing from previous film versions. Maybe the filmmakers want us to see Lex’s evil as driven by insecurity, but if so, Lex always manages to hide it. Eisenberg always seem to keep the insecurity on his sleeve in his performances. (He played the lead in a Woody Allen movie, for God’s sake!) In short, very disappointed with this choice.
