Yeah I couldn’t let this go. I did blogged about topic earlier, but I’ve had a couple people request to do a video on the topic. If you are not aware of this, Hercules is very much a bisexual character. Not just in the comics, but in history. Marvel Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso has stated that despite his past, the Greek god is only after women from this point onward. Why? Seriously, why would he make the character straight? Are straight males afraid of picking up a title that has a bisexual male as the main protagonist?
I think this is a waste of an opportunity to show a very different character that could be opened up to so many new storylines and to include a new audience that would be interested in reading a character that has a very rich backstory already established.

This is such a strange decision to make in 2015. Especially after DC recently gave Midnighter his own series. I’ve always thought of Marvel as being pretty progressive (Young Avengers has been my favorite thing from them in the last decade) and this kind of clashes with that.
I’m not surprised they’re doing this. I don’t think straight comic geeks want to read about a bi Hercules. I’m disappointed with this decision but things can always change. What’s really disturbing is that Hercules is wearing a man-bun in the new comic. SERIOUSLY? A man-bun?!
Even setting aside Hercules’ AU fling with Howlett, it was STRONGLY hinted that he had at least a one-night stand with Northstar in Earth 616.
Like you, I’m perplexed as to why they’re retconning out this chance to reach out to the LGBT community.
